Alexandra "Alex" Smith began her dancing at the age of 4 with Iowa DanceForce in Solon, Iowa. At the age of 14, she began training at the University of Iowa Youth Ballet. Performing in various concerts, the most notable was her role as Alice in the UIYB’s production of Alice in Wonderland. Alexandra was also a member and 4-year MVP of the Solon High School Dance Team located in Solon, Iowa.
Upon graduation, Alexandra moved to Kansas City to continue her training at the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Conservatory of Music and Dance. Currently a junior at UMKC, Alexandra has trained extensively in classical ballet and modern (Horton, Graham, and Afro-influenced styles). As part of her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, there is a strong emphasis on composition and choreography. Through this emphasis, she has had the opportunity to choreograph and present works with the Conservatory and University. In addition to her BFA, Alexandra is also pursuing a minor in Entrepreneurship.
In addition to Alexandra’s training with the Conservatory, she has trained intensively over the summers with Kansas City Ballet and Alonzo King LINES Contemporary Ballet of San Francisco, California.
Alexandra is passionate about the importance of dance in the development of creativity, bravery, a strong work ethic, and a love for oneself and others. She is so excited to work with and see the beauty in each student at MelRoe’s School of Dance.
